These graphs have been built with data used in the analysis of the returns of the Quebec Parental Insurance Plan. The first one shows the rate of utilization of QPIP by total, before-tax income percentile, separately for men and women.
The second graph shows the evolution of total income between 2 years prior to the child’s birth and 6 years after the birth, for two cohorts of parents: those who experienced a birth in 2005, the last before the introduction of QPIP; and those who experienced a birth in 2006, the when the Plan was implemented. Data are presented by income quintile, with income normalized to 1 for the first year shown so as to keep a constant scale for all quintiles.
